Latest Updates from Our Project:

Funding Goal Reached! First Stretch Goal Detailed!
over 9 years ago – Sat, Oct 01, 2016 at 05:52:49 AM

 We're happy to announce that:

WE HIT OUR FIRST FUNDING GOAL!

The entire team is stoked about the support from all of you. But we still have 7 days left, and some amazing stretch-goals to reach! So let's see if we can make the next one, shall we?

First Goal Reached! Now in 4k!
First Goal Reached! Now in 4k!

We also want to update you guys on what we're planning for the $75,000 stretchgoal. We already covered parts of this in our previous update, but as we've now reached our first goal I want to ellaborate a bit more on what's waiting at the next goal.

We know it's a stretch in just 7 days, but we believe in you guys!

We reached the first goal! Let's reach the rest!
We reached the first goal! Let's reach the rest!

The Next Stretchgoal: $75,000!

Our next Goal is basically a range of features and ideas we really wanted to implement, but had to be scrapped due to budget and time. Usually during game development, you get great ideas, which will have to be scrapped, or put on hold to avoid the dreaded "Feature Creep" where each new feature creates a ripple effect throughout all ot the development.

In the $75,000 Stretch Goal, we're going to add new Bonus levels to the game, including bonus areas as well. We're adding new Minigames, and a brand new Android/iOS game/companion app called Surfatron!

Read more about the $75,000 features below:

The Bonus Levels are classic extra/secret levels, that can be unlocked on the overworld, if you find specific secrets in the main levels. Think of the Golden Key in Super Mario World.

The Bonus Areas will be specific areas in the existing levels where you can enter different rooms and caves and get extra gems, a new weapon or lives.

The Overworld Minigames will be small mini-games that you can activate on the overworld in the game. If you remember the mini-games from Super Mario Bros 3, you'll have a pretty good understanding of how these could work.

The Expanded Arsenal includes brand new weapons. We have a ton of ideas for new weaponry we want to add to the first world, alongside the 5 existing weapons.
We recently showcased a brand new weapon - The Grenade Launcher - Which you can check out in the video below (this one you get with the base game, we aren't holding anything back!):

Last but not least, this stretch goal will include the Surfatron Companion Game developed by our good friends at Not Even Entertainment. These guys are working on an amazing game for Android and iOS that started as a companion app for Rad Rodgers, but has since evolved into so much more!

In Surfatron, you ride on Glitchlines as Dusty, trying to avoid hazards, fling yourself from Glitchline-to-Glitchline, and gain items and loot. It's an endless runner type game, which is connected to Rad Rodgers. In Surfatron you can gain special Loot Chests, which will unlock specific powerups for your inventory.

Surfatron!
Surfatron!

You can directly connect Surfatron to Rad Rodgers, and basically swipe in items from the Surfatron App to the Rad Rodgers PC/Console game. We can't show too much from Surfatron yet (Still needs to be made), but we have experimented with some of the Cross-Game features. Check out a sneak peek of Surfatron and the second-screen functionality in the video below which was the first prototype the team at Not Even showed off at our studio:

With a little extra money, we can put the polish on Surfatron it deserves and ship it as a standalone experience that includes the awesome cross-game functionality for those who want both.

That concludes all the extra features we've planned for the $75,000 stretch goal. It's a lot but we're confident we'll get it all done.

And we hope we'll reach all the stretch goals so we can continue working on the second world right away!

And what would a Rad Rodgers Update be without another awesome Comic Strip?
Today's Comic is called "The News". Enjoy!

Thank you so much, and as usual, make sure to share with everyone you know!
We believe in you guys - Let's hit those stretch goals! <3

New Weapon Reveal, Stretch Goal Details & Comic-Strips!
over 9 years ago – Fri, Sep 30, 2016 at 11:48:15 PM

 Hey peeps!

Time for another update - And this one is juicy! First of all, we want to dig a bit more into the Stretch Goals.

As we near our funding goal (yay, 90%!!!), it's time we look to the future. And boy is it bright. We've got a bunch of amazing Stretch Goals we'd like to deliver for you guys, and with your help, we will! Let's get started:

  • First Stretch Goal is at the $75,000 mark and will include several cool new features we've been planning. When working on a game like this, you come up with new ideas all the time, that unfortunately doesn't fit our schedule and budget (And we want to avoid the dreadful "Feature Creep". The first Stretch Goal includes brand new Bonus levels, which are secret levels you can unlock on the overworld Super Mario World style. It also includes brand new weapons, and Overworld Minigames that you can enjoy in-between levels for extra goodies.

This goal also includes the Companion Game called "Surfatron" that our friends at Not Even Entertainment are working hard on. This is a stand-alone mobile game, that takes place exclusively in the Pixelverse, where you surf on Glitchlines as Dusty. It's in the endless runner category and has a super cool second-screen feature, where you can "Swipe" in weapons and items from the companion app, to the full Rad Rodgers game.

We don't want Surfatron to be "just another 2nd screen" experience, and with a little extra funding, we can make it a truly notable standalone experience for you mobile gamers out there!
Behold! Mighty Stretch Goals!
Behold! Mighty Stretch Goals!
  • At $100,000 we'll be developing Mod tools and releasing our Level Editor. We believe Modding is super important, and much our team actually came up through modding. This will allow you to make your own levels and mods in Rad Rodgers, and release them on the Steam Workshop. This Goal also includes an additional platform. We're currently experimenting with the Xbox One, Apple TV, Mac and Linux. Last but not least we'll also localize the game to the most popular languages, so everyone can join the ride!
  • At the $150,000 mark we're adding a new Co-op mode. We haven't fully designed it yet, but we have a bunch of awesome ideas on how to bring multiple player characters to the world of Rad Rodgers. Once we get closer, we'll start discussing this in more detail. This will also include a special Time Attack mode, specially designed for the hardcore speed runners, and will allow you to test your speedrunning skills!
  • And finally at $200,000 we'll be able to dive right into the second world of Rad Rodgers. Each world will have brand new and unique environments, art style, enemies, weapons and game mechanics. We wanted to treat each world as an opportunity to create something completely unique, by only keeping the core game mechanics in place. This hasn't really been done before in games like this, but we believe that Crowdfunding allows us to take on such challenges. We want the second episode to feel like a brand new side-scroller in Many ways. A brand new adventure for Rad & Dusty

Today we're also revealing a BRAND NEW WEAPON!

The Grenade Launcher in all its beauty!
The Grenade Launcher in all its beauty!

BEHOLD! The Mighty Grenade Launcher - With arcing grenades, that bounce all the right ways. You can use the Grenade Launcher to line up Trick Shots, or just spam the fire-button and enjoy all the pretty fireworks.

We also made a short video showcasing the destructive abilities of the grenade launcher.
Enjoy!

And as usual, don't forget to share the Kickstarter with your friend! We need all the support we can get! <3

In this second part of the "Behind the Classics" series, Apogee/3D Realms founder Scott Miller and I talk about another classic game that inspired Rad Rodgers - The original Duke Nukem. Dive into the fascinating story about how Duke Nukem was invented as we have a relaxed conversation about the origins of Duke Nukem 1, while playing the original game that started it all.

We also have another super cool Rad & Dusty Adventures Comic Strip for you guys. This one is called "The Backpack" -- we've all been there:

2 Weeks Left! Soundtrack, Poster and Comic-Strips!
over 9 years ago – Fri, Sep 23, 2016 at 08:10:38 AM

 Hey guys!

Time for another RADICAL update!
First of all, we just passed the Half-Way mark in terms of the Kickstarter duration.
We now have 2 weeks left! Even though we're over half-way there in terms of funding, there's still a long way to go, and it's going to be an up-hill battle from here.

So we need all the help we can get. Please share, and spread the word to everyone you know! This is really important, as we need as many eyes on the Kickstarter page as possible.

And now - time for the goodies!

First of all, Jacob finalized the Kick-ass Physical Poster, that you'll receive in some of the rewards. Check it out!

As you might already know, we've been putting together some kick-ass Comic Strips from the adventures of Rad and Dusty as well. Our Comic-Book Duo Arturo and Isabel are doing a great job with these.

Here's the next one called "The Lesson".

Yesterday, I was also interviewed by Alice from "The Lighting Needs To Be Rebuilt".
It's a podcast about Unreal Engine games, and they often cover a lot of interesting techincal details.

This episode is dedicated to Rad Rodgers, and the interview has a lot of great details about the game that we haven't previously talked about. It's definitely worth the time, so check it out!

Last but not least, we've received some great Fan-Art for Rad Rodgers!
This one is from Artem Nevinchany, who created this awesome Pixel-Art version of Rad & Dusty!
